Re:Seed Update, Part The First
Moondrop Mountain has some issues. The most interesting mechanic in the game, the neighbor-plant-arrow system, is virtually unavailable for between 40% and 75% of the game. Yikes. To fix this and other issues, Moondrop is undergoing some major changes. I go into tons of detail here, but here's a tl;dr:
- The plant growth system has been entirely reworked. Whereas before matching (or opposing) plant arrows impacted the final value of the crop, now matching arrows are required for the plant to grow at all.
- Players no longer are required to buy seeds. They get a daily income of two seeds, although this can be
increased as the game continues.
- There is a new level up system. Instead of getting preset bonuses on leveling a skill (like farming or mining), players can now choose from up to three perks.
- There are skill levels for foraging and for alchemy too now.
- There are now unlocks that persist from game to game. Lots of the perks start off unavailable to the player, but they can be discovered through repeat plays.
- Trail rewards can now include perks.
- Added in gold rocks (break for cash) and berry bushes to enliven the mountain trail.
- Added a new Plant UI box that displays plant info when the mouse hovers over a plant.
- Redid the basic value potions - now they change the growth arrows given out by all nearby plants.
The purpose of the Re:Seed update is to increase replayability of the game. To that end, I'm adding in the new level up / perk system in order to get the game feeling more like a roguelike. Different choices will allow different builds on different playthroughs. The new growth system ensures that players are always planting new seeds from the first day until the last. Unlockable perks will open up new options for future games. The next update (Part the Second) will focus more on fleshing out builds, new craftables and material types, and creating some more metagame structure and goals. I've got a vision of where this game is going, and the future is looking bright :)
